Spotlight Drive-in of the week: Mission Tiki in Montclair, CA

Hey DIFF fans! After compiling a huge list of every functioning drive-in in the country, we’ve decided to highlight a different drive-in every week. We wish we could bring our festival to all of these AMAZING drive-ins!

This week, we’re going to talk about the Mission Tiki Drive-in in Montclair, Southern California.

Image from http://www.socaldims.com/driveintheaterlinks.htm

This super cool 4-screener is open YEAR ROUND. California is so lucky! and was recently refurbished in 2006. Their (totally cool!) website states that the Tiki is not only home to screenings, but to an open air market called The Mission Tiki Swapmeet, car shows, private events and annual festivals. They feature classics as well as current blockbusters.

As if it couldn’t get any better, the snack bar sound amazing – they offer traditional theater treats, as well as burgers, pizza and Mexican food!

How cool would it be if we could have our festival there? If you’re in the area, definitely check these guys out! Hopefully we’ll make it out the west coast in future seasons!

Drive-in Film Festival 2011 is ON!

Hello, fellow drive-in and film festival enthusiasts!  We are looking forward to an incredible fourth season! The DIFF team has a lot of exciting news to share.

We have our first confirmed festival film!

Mia and the Migoo is a family friendly animated tale about a girl and her search for her father – and her eventual meeting with a very strange creature! Featuring the voices of John Dimaggio, Whoopi Goldberg, Matthew Modine, Wallace Shawn and James Woods, this animated feature consists of 500,000 individually painted frames and  is incredibly visually striking. We can’t wait to screen this!

We have our first confirmed festival date!

We will be screening at the Delsea Drive-in in Vineland, NJ on September 24, 2011. We can’t wait to partner up with these guys again this year!

The Delsea is an amazing family owned and operated drive-in (the only drive-in in the whole state!) nestled in southern New Jersey, between Philadelphia and Atlantic City, and is also one of the closest drive-ins to NYC. This Drive-in is so much more than just screens – with what seems to be HUNDREDS of delicious menu items, from cinema staples like popcorn, soda and nachos, to other treats like burgers, hoagies and cheese fries… and milkshakes, sundaes, edamame and pierogis…  the concessions stand will make your jaw drop and mouth water!

Other news…

We have fabulous new poster and t-shirt designs for this season that will soon be revealed! They are coming along great, and we can’t wait to share them with all of you!

NYC events coming soon!

Stay tuned for more information about additional dates, locations and films we will be screening! Add us on facebook and follow us on twitter!

So don’t forget to fill your cars up with film fans and come to DIFF this year!

Winter, No Drive-in’s up North…Bah.

I am having the blues.

I keep getting updates from great Drive-in’s in warm climates, and what they are screening, and so wish I could hop down for a quick evening out.

But alas, I am up here in New York city, facing the snow and ice. And having to see all my movies in, yep, theaters, or in the house.

So, what can I do?

Well, host a screening of amazing shorts here in the city, that we found as we searched for films this summer for the 2010 festival season.

The question now is, where? So many fun venues to check out…

On to the Next One!

After a great weekend at the Loomis Delevan Drive-In in New York filled with great films, delicious snacks and AMAZING people (here’s to you Loomis family!) we’re gearing up for the next DIFF event.
This time the party is going all the way to Michigan. That’s right, Michigan. Coldwater. The Capri Drive In. Boo-ya!

Here’s the rundown for this weekend:
Capri Drive In – 119 West Chicago Rd, Coldwater, MI 49036
The Drive-In Film Festival is taking over Screen #2 with our line up-
acing Dreams – Documentary and Sports

Follows the emotional journeys of three top racers competing for the national championship. Three adolescents and their families must discover if they have the talent and dedication plus sponsorship dollars to one day become NASCAR superstars. Starring:

MPAA Rating: PG-13

The Extra Man – Comedy and Adaptation

Louis Ives is a lonely dreamer who fancies himself the hero of an F. Scott Fitzgerald novel. When a deeply embarrassing incident forces him to leave his job at an exclusive Princeton prep school, Louis head s to New York City to make a fresh start. He quickly finds a 9 to 5 job at an environmental magazine, where he encounters an entrancing, green-obsessed co-worker Mary. But, what really sparks Louis’ imagination is his new home life. He rents a room in the ramshackle apartment of Henry Harrison, a penniless, wildly eccentric failed playwright. When Henry’s not dancing alone to obscure music or singing operettas, he’s performing ¿ with great panache — the duties of an “extra man,” a social escort for the wealthy widows of Manhattan high society. The two men develop a volatile mentorship, which leads to a series of urban adventures — encountering everything from a leaping lion to a wildly jealous hirsute neighbor to drunken nonagenarians to a shady Swiss hunchback. Starring: Paul Dano, Kevin Kline, Katie Holmes, John C. Reilly, John Pankow

MPAA Rating: R for some sexual content.

So in summary
1. load up your car with people
2. come to the drive-in
3. have an amazing night watching marvelous movies!

BUFFALO!

Alright folks, it’s countdown time.  We have approximately two days 10 hours until the official real-deal no-hold-barred start of the Drive In Film Festival!

We’re hitting up the East Coast on the first stop of the DIFF this year, taking roost at the Delevan Drive In in Delevan, NY just outside of Buffalo.  We’re going to have great shows for kids, parents, teens, grandparents,  20-whatevers, and movie-lovers of all ages. HERE are the details, Facebook style:

Too old school to have a facebook? Well then here’s the breakdown

Delevan Drive In New York 16 in Delevan, NY

SATURDAY, September 11,2010

Get there around sundown (7:30ish) to see the full show:

On the first screen –yup, Delevan is so lean and mean it’s got two viewing screens– is amazing, inspiring, RACING DREAMS.

What do you mean you’ve never heard of RACING DREAMS?!?!?! It’s only the best movie ever about young aspiring go-kart drivers.  (don’t believe me? fine, ask the critics on Rottentomatoes.com that gave it a 100% fresh review: Here )  The next movie on Screen Numero Uno is Nanny McPhee Dos.  As if that weren’t enough to bring you out to the theater, they’ve got Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

On the second screen –I’m sorry, I still can’t get over the fact that the Delevan is so popular that they have 2 screens, come on and see for yourself– we’ll be screening THE VICIOUS KIND.

Still have no idea what that movie is?  Watch the trailer! THE VICIOUS KIND TRAILER

And even after a kick-ass movie like that they’ll be showing BOTH Exorcism and Pirahna 3D!

So get your kids, get your wife and get your husband, cause we’re having lots of fun out here!

Help Wanted!

Well folks, it’s official and it’s wonderful!  The Drive-In Film Festival is doing everything in its power to reach out to the Capri Drive-In in Michigan.  And we need your help.

To be a part of it all please donate what you can to our new Kickstarter page.  Every dollar brings us (and independent films) a little closer to getting to the Capri!

Submit! Submit! Submit!

To the Drive-In Film Festival, of course!

We’re looking for the best independent films around to bring to drive-ins across the country and would love to hear if anybody has any suggestions!  Comment here or on our facebook – or if you’re an indie filmmaker and have the breakout film of the century check out our website on how to submit: www.driveinfilmfestival.com

Let’s make it happen people, let’s bring those fantastic flicks to the drive-ins!
